Quynhlien Nguyen, Preschool Director/Brown Bears Teacher
My name is Quynhlien. I am the teacher of the Brown Bear class and also the preschool director. I received my teaching credentials in 2001 in the field concerning children with special needs. I had previously worked in the Child Development Lab School in Miramar for two years, and was also a substitute teacher for San Diego City schools. I have worked at Cornerstone for seven wonderful years. I strongly believe that a teacher can make a difference in a child's life. My mission as a teacher is to ensure every child receives the care and love that they deserve.
Diana Baltazar, Assistant Director/Green Frogs Teacher
I first came to Christ the Cornerstone as an ROP Child Development student when I was in high school. I fell in love with the children I worked with here, and came back to volunteer to be with them. I was very impressed with the school, and most of all, everyone seemed like a big family here. It still holds true, that is why seven years later, I am still here, happily working as a four year old teacher and Assistant Director, having earned an Associate degree in Child Development and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UCSD. I truly enjoy spending time with the preschoolers; I think it is a pleasure to be present at a time when they excitedly experience things for the first time, when their senses are gladly stimulated, and when their achievements, big and small, are to be encouraged. I am here to set an example of good Christian behavior towards everybody I meet so that these children will know of God's love. I am here to inspire their creative spirit and let them dabble on different kinds of art medium. I am here to teach the children not only about letters and numbers, but also about poems and songs that will stick with them for a lifetime. In everything that we do in the class, I make sure that the children put forth their best effort. I try to promote independence in the class, and most of all, I try to impart responsibility to each of the children here so they learn that their actions are meaningful and have consequences. I believe consistency is key, and that is I always communicate to the parents any ideas, concerns, and successes. As our slogan says, Christ the Cornerstone - it's a great place to grow!
Karla Medina, Purple Butterflies Teacher
My name is Karla Medina. I started in CTC as an ROP student from Mira Mesa High School. After I graduated, I started working as a teacher's aide, and worked my way up to be a four year old teacher. I really love being a teacher here at CTC because we are more than a staff, we are a big family. My job is also very fun and rewarding because not only do we get to teach academics, but we teach about the love of Jesus in our lives. God bless you.
Carmen Rascon, Blue Whales Teacher
I believe in order to be an effective teacher you have to mix discipline and love and know when and where to apply it. I come from a large, happy and loving family. I am a mother of three and a grandmother of seven, all of whom I raised. I have been blessed; I have known about Jesus since I was a child. I enjoy being a preschool teacher, especially at Christ the Cornerstone. I love you . . . in Jesus.
Lillian Wong, Yellow Ducks Teacher
I was born in Hong Kong and I have eight siblings. I finished college in Hong Kong and I worked for two years at a travel agency where I was promoted to study in London, England. I stayed there for eight years and in 1997, my family moved to San Diego. I continued to study so I could learn more about American culture. I chose to study Child Development so that I could help my son learn more about the American culture and society.
When I completed my teacher permit, I felt that I really love teaching children. I do this so I can guide their ways and increase their faith and encourage them in their righteousness. I really love the children and their happiness and laughter. My goal is to have them understand the Bible and grow in God's love, just like Timothy in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:15) - my son's name is also Timothy!
Katy Perez, Orange Tigers Teacher
My name is Katy Perez. I have been at Christ the cornerstone since I was a ROP student. After my internship was over, I came back as a teacher's aide because I loved the children and I didn't want to leave them. I was an aide for both the three year old and the four year old classes. Now I am the Orange Tiger teacher for one of our three-year-old classes. I am honored to be a part of those children's lives at the time they are exploring and are eager to learn and play with others. I enjoying guiding and observing the children grow so fast physically, mentally and emotionally, and with the love of God. CTCA is not only a school for the students but, CTCA is a home for all where we can find love, comfort, friends, and God's love.
Elwin Baltazar, Gray Dolphins Teacher
My name is Elwin Baltazar and I will be this year's Gray Dolphins teacher. I am 19 years of age and currently in my second year of college with plans of attending UCSD in the fall of 2009. Although, I may still be young, I am confident that I have more than enough experience to be able to guide your child and build a strong foundation for their early childhood education. I was in the ROP Child Development class during my senior year of high school where I first seriously thought about teaching. In January of 2007, I began working here at Christ the Cornerstone Academy as a teacher's aide. Ever since then, with the help of the great teachers here, I have learned many valuable skills and knowledge that will greatly enhance my teaching abilities. Towards the end of the 2006-2007 school year, I took over the Gray Dolphins class where I first put all that I have learned into action. Together with the experience of being a teacher's aide and taking many child development classes, I am truly excited to embark on this journey with your child filled with fun times, hard work, and challenges that we will overcome as a class.
Susan Ponce, Red Birds Teacher
I have been working with children since 1966, in various forms. First, as a licensed pediatric vocational nurse, then as an owner of a large licensed family daycare. Before coming to CTC, I was a parent training teacher at a home for unwed teenaged mothers. I received my teacher's certificate from Miramar College with a 4.0 GPA.
I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and CTC will help your child to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe in education presented in a loving, caring, and consistent manner. Preschool is a time when the seeds of reading, writing, and learning are planted. I look forward to work each day. Please come and share the joy of our school.
